Max Scherzer’s eight-year old daughter gets her wish as pitching legend returns to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Max Scherzer‘s return to the Toronto Blue Jays isn’t just a big moment for the franchise, it’s a dream come true for his eight-year-old daughter, Brooke.

While fans across the country celebrated the news, it’s safe to say no one was more thrilled than Brooke.

The Scherzer family embraced life in Toronto last season, and Brooke quickly developed a deep affection for the city.

Just like her parents, she had been hoping «Mad Max» would find his way back to the Blue Jays. In the early hours of Thursday morning, that hope became reality.

At nearly 1:00 a.m. ET, the Blue Jays officially announced they had re-signed Scherzer to a one-year contract worth $3 million, with performance incentives that could push the total value to $10 million.

Earlier in the offseason, it looked as though Scherzer’s stint in Toronto had run its course. After the club added several arms to bolster its rotation, a reunion seemed unlikely.

But momentum shifted last week when reports surfaced that the Blue Jays had emerged as the frontrunner to bring the 41-year-old back.

And perhaps Brooke’s persistence played a small role in that outcome.

Following the announcement, Scherzer’s wife, Erica, shared a heartfelt handwritten letter Brooke had penned earlier in the winter.

Heartfelt letter left little doubt about where Scherzer’s daughter allegiance lies

Scherzer’s wife Erica wrote:

“Back in December Brooke wrote this letter, put it in an envelope and asked us to mail it to the Blue Jays. Looks like she gets her wish! ☺️ Last season had an amazing impact on our entire family and we couldn’t be more excited to be back in Toronto!! Season 19 here we go! 💙”

«Dear Blue Jays, I am so sorry that you didn’t win the World Series. I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team. My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad. «We loved the aquarium, CN Tower and of course, the stadium. I am looking forward to coming back next season. Love, Max Scherzer’s daughter.»

This letter written by Max Scherzer’s daughter, Brooke, to the Blue Jays, hoping they would re-sign her dad 😭😭😭😭😭 Amazing! Baseball is the best 🥺

Scherzer’s return adds another experienced arm to an already deep Blue Jays pitching staff.

Toronto currently boasts options including Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Jose Berrios, giving the club significant flexibility heading into the season.

With Opening Day just 29 days away, Scherzer will need time to build up. While he could compete for starts, a bullpen role may also be in play, with the possibility of spot starts throughout the year.

The veteran right-hander endured an up-and-down 2025 regular season, posting a 5.19 ERA across 85 innings.

However, he flipped the script in October. During Toronto’s run to the World Series, Scherzer made three postseason starts, recording a 3.77 ERA with 11 strikeouts – a performance that demonstrated he still has plenty left to offer.

When exactly Scherzer will be game-ready remains uncertain. What is clear, though, is that his return has energized the fanbase.

And for Brooke, it’s the best news of all.
