Santa Clara, CA. As the NFL’s legal tampering window opened, the San Francisco 49ers quickly began evaluating options to reshape key parts of their roster.

General manager John Lynch reportedly used the early negotiation period to connect with five targeted free agents, focusing on reinforcing the wide receiver group, strengthening the pass rush, and improving interior offensive line protection.

Heading into the 2026 offseason, the 49ers face significant roster questions, particularly at wide receiver and along the defensive front.

With quarterback Brock Purdy continuing to lead the offense, the organization appears determined to surround him with reliable weapons while maintaining a dominant defense.

Romeo Doubs (Wide Receiver – Green Bay Packers)

One of the primary targets reportedly contacted by Lynch is wide receiver Romeo Doubs of the Green Bay Packers.

Doubs is widely viewed as a potential replacement if star receiver Brandon Aiyuk departs. Known for his consistency and strong route running, Doubs offers a reliable receiving option who could fit naturally within head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system while remaining a cost-efficient addition.

Mike Evans (Wide Receiver – Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Another high-profile name reportedly contacted is veteran receiver Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 49ers are believed to be searching for a traditional “X receiver” capable of dominating contested catches and providing a major red-zone threat. Despite being 33 years old, Evans remains one of the league’s most reliable touchdown producers and could immediately elevate San Francisco’s passing attack.

Alec Pierce (Wide Receiver – Indianapolis Colts)

San Francisco also reportedly reached out to deep-threat receiver Alec Pierce of the Indianapolis Colts.

Pierce’s speed and ability to stretch defenses vertically make him an intriguing addition. His presence would give the 49ers a true downfield weapon capable of opening space underneath for other offensive playmakers.

Jaelan Phillips (EDGE – Miami Dolphins)

Defensively, Lynch reportedly contacted pass rusher Jaelan Phillips of the Miami Dolphins.

San Francisco is searching for a high-level pass rusher to complement superstar defender Nick Bosa. Phillips is considered one of the most talented edge defenders potentially available in the 2026 free-agent market and could significantly strengthen the 49ers’ defensive front.

Isaac Seumalo (Guard – Pittsburgh Steelers)

Finally, the 49ers are believed to be addressing a major weakness along the offensive line by contacting veteran guard Isaac Seumalo of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Improving interior protection has become a priority after a season in which Brock Purdy frequently faced heavy pressure. Seumalo brings veteran experience and reliability at left guard, potentially stabilizing one of the most vulnerable areas of the offensive line.

With several roster questions to resolve this offseason, John Lynch’s early outreach during the legal tampering period highlights San Francisco’s aggressive approach.

By targeting players who can strengthen both sides of the ball, the 49ers are positioning themselves to remain serious Super Bowl contenders in the coming season.
