The case of Timothy Eli Thompson is a rare form of birth defect that only 1 in 197 million babies has.

On March 4, in the state of Alabama, USA, baby boy Timothy Eli Thompson was born in the joy and happiness of his parents. However, the boy has a major defect on his face that is no nose.

Brandi McGlathery – Eli’s mother shared, “Ever since I was pregnant, I’ve always wanted to have a normal healthy baby. Every time I go for an ultrasound, I feel happy when I don’t detect any signs of illness or abnormalities from the fetus. However, when Timothy Eli Thompson was born, both myself and the doctors were surprised that he had absolutely no nose and sinus cavities.

Eli’s case is a rare form of birth defect that only 1 in 197 million babies has. The lack of a nose made it difficult for the boy to breathe and Eli was forced to use a ventilator through his mouth. Eli was treated at the American Hospital for Mothers and Children in Mobile City.

Since Eli was born, Ms. Brandi McGlathery has always updated her son’s health status on her personal Facebook page and received the attention of many people. She shared very honestly the feelings of a mother when welcoming her child carrying a heavy labor for 9 months and 10 days. The feelings of the first times when bathing her baby, giving her milk, holding her baby to sleep and seeing her baby without a nose are also shared by this mother with a name called “Eli’s Journey”.

“For me, Eli is the most beautiful and brave boy I have ever seen. Even if Eli later grows up, everyone looks at him with a look of fear or contempt, my husband and I will be the ones who will always be by our side because that is the crystallization of our love. I love him and am always proud of his bravery,” said Brandi.

When Eli was 5 days old, the doctors performed a tracheostomy to support the baby’s breathing and fortunately after the operation, the boy’s health showed signs of improvement. And after 3 weeks of treatment, Eli was completely normal and was able to see his parents without a ventilator. Eli’s parents were extremely happy to welcome their son back to their family’s ancestral home.
