The Detroit Tigers are looking to shake off their recent struggles, and they’ve made a move that could help turn the tide. Outfielder Kerry Carpenter has been activated from the 10-day injured list and took his place as the designated hitter in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox.
To make room for Carpenter’s return, infielder Gage Workman has been sent down to Triple-A Toledo. Carpenter’s stint on the injured list began on May 10, following a collision with the right-field wall at Kauffman Stadium that left him with a left AC joint sprain.
This season, Carpenter has been hitting .216, with six homers and 17 RBIs over 37 games. Last year, he showed some power, posting a .252 average with 26 home runs and 62 RBIs in 130 games. The Tigers, who have been in a rough patch, losing 20 of their last 24 games, are certainly hoping Carpenter’s return can provide a spark.
Manager A.J. Hinch expressed optimism about Carpenter’s readiness, noting, “Obviously nice to get Carp back and in the lineup.
He had two rehab games, three if you count the (Justin) Verlander sim game, and he’s ready to go. He’s seen the ball well.
He feels healthy, and we’re excited to get him back in the lineup.”
Carpenter’s return could be just the boost the Tigers need as they look to regain their footing in the season. Fans will be eager to see if his presence in the lineup can help reverse their fortunes.
